Let the 2016 YLHS Olympic games begin! Each school year, Yorba Linda High School holds their annual Olympics, which consists of Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors and Teachers competing against each other in a number of games to win the gold for their team.

This year, instead of having an opening flag ceremony at break to start off the Olympics, YLHS will be holding a rally with emcees, flag walks and many challenging games to start off the upcoming weeks of the big competition. Each team will also have one-fifth of the upper quad to decorate with class spirit according to their team color. Freshman will be red, Sophomores are blue, Juniors represent white, Seniors will be black and the teachers will be green!

Mr. Lejano, the economics teacher and tennis coach here at YLHS, will be hosting the 2015-2016 YLHS Olympics. He says “the Olympics have been so successful in the past three years that [he’s] really excited to ramp it up this year! It should be the best this year, especially if the teachers win!” Not only does Mr. Lejano pump up the school pride here at YLHS, but he also encourages students to get involved with the games in the Olympics as well as school- sponsored events throughout the year.

As January 15th, the Olympic rally, approaches, Sophomore officers Katelyn Walker (10), Daniela Zirkle (10) and Aubrey Osorio (10) have teamed up with Rally Commissioners Sierra Bauerle (11) and Carly Jenican (11) to make the 2015-2016 Olympics a success. With the ASB family to support them, the leadership class has been making posters, finding game contestants and decorating their campus to raise the spirit of the atmosphere.

As the sophomore class president, Katelyn Walker (10) discusses how “there’s a whole lot of work that goes into the Olympics. [She] works with the other two sophomore officers to create a rally that the whole student body will enjoy. It may be stressful, but it’s so much fun to see the finished product!”

Sophomore class Vice President, Daniela Zirkle (10) says that “the thing [she’s] most excited about for the Olympics is the class bonding. As a student, one spends four years taking classes with peers, but doesn’t always get the chance to bond with them. However, with the Olympics, it allows students to participate and work together to better their class.” Daniela also explains how much work is put into the rally, saying “[she] and the other class officers work at lunch, meeting with teachers, the ASB director, and the Advanced Video Productions class to make it all work out. It may not seem much to the students, but behind the scenes, a lot of people are working hard to put it on for the student body!”

Good luck YLHS! May the best team win, and let’s go for the gold!
