Two weekends ago, Yorba Linda High School had its annual winter formal! However, this winter formal was not like any regular dance. Usually, YLHS has their dances for just YLHS students, but, for this year’s winter formal, it was a combined PYLUSD district formal! This meant at the winter formal, there were a total of five schools present: Yorba Linda High School, Esperanza High School, El Dorado High School, Valencia High School, and El Camino Real High School.
The winter formal theme was the Harry Potter Yule Ball! Numerous students enjoyed this theme because it was very creative and many have never seen a school theme dance around Harry Potter. The schools thought of this theme because this was not a regular winter formal with just one school – it was a combined dance with five schools. Just like the fourth movie of the Harry Potter series, Goblet of Fire, the three schools — Hogwarts, Durmstrang, and Beauxbatons – came together and had their dance, the Yule Ball.
YLHS student, Fara Ebrahimi (12), was extremely excited when she heard about the theme being Harry Potter Yule Ball. As an avid reader of the famous book series when she was little, she was thrilled that ASB chose to have this year’s winter formal Harry Potter Yule Ball themed, remarking that she, “thought it was really creative and is a theme she has never heard another school do before.”
The PYLUSD winter formal took place at Wild Rivers Waterpark in Irvine. At the winter formal, there was a big dance floor under a tarp (since it was raining intermittently that day), a drink section, and even a silent disco dance floor! The silent disco was unique because students were able to put on headphones and jam it out! Personally, I’ve only ever seen silent discos on TikTok, so to see it happen in real life and at winter formal was so cool!

, had a lot of fun at this year’s winter formal, saying, “It was nice to see my friends from other schools in the district and not just my friends at school. I loved getting to see them again and catching up with them.”While it did rain a bit during the dance, that did not stop the PYLUSD students from making it a night to remember. This year’s 2025 Harry Potter Yule Ball PYLUSD district combined winter formal was definitely a success!
