As we enter winter, people desire fun activities to do with friends, family, and loved ones. Since Christmas and New Year’s have passed, there are not many activities that do not involve these holidays. It can be hard to find something you like and enjoy this season, so here are a few ideas to entertain you this winter!
Outdoor Activities
As we know, residents of SoCal are not likely to have snow in their backyards. But a brisk 2-hour car ride will transport you to a frosty-snowy winter wonderland, Big Bear Lake. Here, you can try out activities that do not require expertise like the Alpine Coaster, tubing, ice skating, and building snowmen. These activities are great to experience with friends and family. Sledding, snowboarding, and skiing are available for those more skilled in snow sports. There are many fun snow activities here that will help you make memories and laughs. If you are not interested in anything listed above, simply exploring Big Bear is a fun activity on its own. The town is beautiful, and there is so much to see.
If snow isn’t your cup of tea, there are still outdoor activities people in SoCal can enjoy. Although the weather is cooling down, there are still sunny days that are perfect for a winter picnic. Make sure to choose a date at least a few days after a rainy week so that your picnic supplies don’t get wet on the grass. While it will still be colder than is ideal, you can bring warm tea and bundle up to beat the weather.
Indoor Activities
Sometimes it is just too chilly to go outside. If you need a few ideas on what to do with your free time indoors, here is one delicious idea: baking with loved ones or on your own. You can experiment with your creative side and try creating pastries you never have before. They can be an apple crumble, a cranberry crisp, or an apple pie bar. In addition, it is always enjoyable to try seasonal items and local bakeries.
Something that never disappoints is a movie marathon. Watching an enjoyable movie with comfy pajamas and warm blankets is a must. Sadie Smith (11), a junior at YLHS and a women’s soccer team player, loves her winter movies. She loves watching “How The Grinch Stole Christmas and Ice Princess” with her mom and dog. Another fun activity is creating a vision board. Although the year has already started, it is never too late to initiate your vision for 2025. This activity is fun with friends and by yourself. You use a construction paper board and fill it with pictures related to goals you have for this year. This is a memorable activity with friends since it can make you laugh and bring you closer to them.
If you ever feel unsure of what to do this winter, try out one of these pastimes and spend time with friends and family.
