It seems as if fans have been waiting months for this highly anticipated boxing match between rising boxing star and former YouTube personality/actor, Jake Paul, and former boxer who was one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time, Mike Tyson. It may seem from that description that Tyson has an advantage over Paul; however, Paul’s huge advantage over Tyson is not necessarily his skill, but his age. Paul is over three decades younger than Tyson with Paul being twenty-seven and Tyson being fifty-eight years old.
Paul challenged Tyson to a fight earlier this year, and the fight was initially confirmed to be in July of 2024. However, the fight was postponed due to Tyson needing medical attention as a result of an ulcer flare-up.
Paul entered the fight on November 15, 2024 as the betting favorite according to USA Today, but in regards to being the crowds’ favorite, many were hoping for Tyson to come out on top. The boxing match was expected to be heated because of all the talk behind the two players; for example, at the weigh-in Tyson slapped Paul across the face. People were expecting this fight to be very eventful.
Not only that, but the fight was being even more hyped up because of the fact that it was going to be a livestream event on Netflix. With tensions high between Paul and Tyson, everyone was expecting this fight to be the fight of the year. However, at the end of the night, a lot of people were disappointed.
Paul beat Tyson after a unanimous decision in a fight with more than 70,000 spectators at the AT&T Stadium, but fans were expecting a little bit more “umph” from both the fighters. There have been many rumors circulating that Tyson was forced to lose by Paul’s team in order for Tyson to earn a great deal of money. Even though Tyson put those rumors to rest, many still believe that the match was rigged. The fight was also considered a blow because of the many different streaming problems on Netflix the night of, for the livestream had many pauses and lags leaving many fans upset and frustrated.
