There is no doubt that 2024 has been an incredibly strong year for music. From Beyoncé to Taylor Swift and so many more big artists of this generation, music enjoyers have not had a break this year. With 2024 winding down to its final months, here are some recent album releases and others to look forward to.
Older (and Wiser) by Lizzy McAlpine
A deluxe version of her album, Older, Older (and Wiser) was released on October 4, 2024, and has nineteen songs. This deluxe adds five bonus songs to the previous tracklist: “Method Acting (demo)”, “Pushing It Down and Praying”, “Soccer Practice”, “Force of Nature”, and “Spring into Summer”. Filled with themes of growth, heartbreak, and vulnerability, McAlpine’s third album is a beautiful mix between the folk and pop genres. “Older”, ”I Guess”, and “Pushing It Down and Praying” are a few of the most popular songs on the album.
The Secret of Us (Deluxe) by Gracie Abrams
Released on October 18, 2024, the deluxe version of The Secret of Us includes four new songs as well as the live version of the songs “I Love You, I’m Sorry”; “I Knew It, I Know You”; and “Free Now”, all of which were on the original album. The additional songs – “Cool”, “That’s So True”, “I Told You Things”, and “Packing It Up” – are tracks that enhance the listening experience and highlight Abrams’s strong songwriting and vocal abilities. Though she is only two albums into her musical career, Gracie Abrams is quickly establishing herself as an artist that is here to stay. Some of the top songs of the album are “That’s So True”; I Love You, I’m Sorry”; and “Close To You”.
CHROMAKOPIA by Tyler, the Creator
Ever since his debut in 2007, Tyler, the Creator has been one of the biggest names in the hip-hop industry. The release of CHROMAKOPIA on October 28, 2024, only solidified this statement, as his eighth studio album topped many charts including the Billboard 200 (Billboard). This album contains fourteen tracks and features many guest appearances from artists such as Daniel Caesar, Lil Wayne, and Childish Gambino. Each song was written, produced, and arranged by Tyler, the Creator. Three of the most streamed songs from the album on Spotify include “Noid”, “St. Chroma”, and “Darling, I”. Tyler, the Creator is also going on tour in 2025 to support the album.
Upcoming Albums
Finishing out the year, Shawn Mendes is putting out Shawn on November 15. This will be his first full-length release since 2022 when he canceled his Wonder tour to prioritize his mental health. Rosé, a member of the Korean girl group BLACKPINK, is set to release her debut solo album, rosie, on December 6. This project follows the hit, “APT.” which featured Bruno Mars and quickly took the internet by storm. On December 13, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg will also be releasing Missionary, which is said to feature Eminem, Jelly Roll, and others. Along with these releases, there are also many albums in the works that don’t have a set release date. Artists like Lana Del Rey, The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Chance the Rapper are all said to have projects in development (Metacritic).
As music continues to get put out, there is no question that everyone will find something they resonate with and continuously listen to. Kelsey Ikemoto (11) comments, “The newly released albums all had the type of music I enjoy, so I am looking forward to streaming them.”
