Following the release of the award-winning albums Lover, Folklore, and Evermore by none other than Taylor Swift, fans have created four factions: Mirrorball, This Is Me Trying, Goldrush, and Archer characters. Each of these characteristics derives from their given songs, “Mirrorball”, “This Is Me Trying”, “Goldrush”, and “The Archer”. Some fans feel that these songs describe characteristics about themselves better than they can put into words themselves.

A “Mirrorball” character is the type of person who changes things about themselves to fit into society and other social groups. The song goes into depth about how this person works hard to allow the other person in a given situation to feel the most comfortable.

A “This Is Me Trying” character is a person who feels that their efforts and worth ethic are not seen or appreciated by others. These people have worked hard to get to where they are today, but people simply don’t recognize the value that they hold. “This Is Me Trying” characters may feel trapped by the confines of their own thought processes and people try to tell them that it is easy, but it may not be so easy for them.

A “Goldrush” character is one who is perceived to have a more glamorous life than it is. Seemingly, everything one thinks about this type of person is better than the reality truly is. Those who identify with this type of character feel that people misunderstand them for who they truly are.

An “Archer” character is someone who feels taken advantage of, underappreciated, or taken for granted, but now feels ready to stand up for themselves. People with these characteristics often experience that no one ever stays with them, and they fear losing people.

Many fans have decided that they feel they belong under one category of the songs. Often, people use these songs to help identify their own characteristics and help them to understand themselves better. Moreover, some people even feel that they belong under several of these categories, and not just one. It can be easy to feel lost in all the negativity in the world, but Taylor Swift has provided her fans with comfort by allowing them to relate to something deeper than they may be able to reveal themselves. My sister, Allie Steward, a self-proclaimed Taylor Swift expert says, “I have always felt like I have related to the song ‘Mirrorball’, but the great thing about Taylor Swift is that regardless of who you are or where you are in life, you can always find a song to relate to.”
