SZA’s 2023 S.O.S Tour
May 25, 2023
SZA, Solana Imani Row, released her SOS album on December 9, 2022. Her career leading up to this point has been nothing but exciting and abundant. She started her career after dropping out of Deleware State University to pursue music. After a few months, she dropped her Debut EP – see S.Z.A run. A few months later, she dropped her second EP, S. Both were a huge success and got her noticed by a few big-time artists. For a few years, she wrote song for other artists as well as herself and released some singles, such as “Good Days”, “Broken Clocks”, and “Hit Different”. “I’ve been listening to SZA since she started releasing music and I love her” shares Abigail Lee (11).
In July 2013, she was signed by Top Dawg Record Label, which is one of the most popular American record labels. Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolBoy Q, Ab-Soul, and Isaiah Rashad are all currently signed with them. A few months later in October, she was invited by the Swedish band Little Dragon Dragon to go on a four-concert tour. She wrote 2 more EPS, her fourth one was her mega-hit album, Ctrl. Ctrl got her noticed by big-time artists, like Rhianna. She helped write “Consideration” for Rhianna’s 2016 album, Anti. She was even invited to perform alongside Rhianna live at the 2016 Brit Awards. As of 2023, SZA’s brand has grown exponentially and her music is loved by people all across the country. Her new SOS album has gotten over 68 million streams on Spotify and has broken the record for single-day streams for an R&B album. The first week of sales sold over 60,000 units, which is an incredible success.
As of now, “SOS” has been #1 on Billboard 200 for seven consecutive weeks, making it the longest consecutive No. 1 released album in 2022. It has actually spent more total weeks at No. 1 than any album released by a female artist since Taylor Swift’s “Folklore” (2020), and it’s the first R.&B. album to be No. 1 for 7 weeks straight since Whitney Houston’s “Whitney” was released in 1987. Kill Bill, the most popular song in SOS, was a huge success on streaming services, with two weeks at the top of the Billboard Global 200 chart, and has been sitting for four weeks atop the US Streaming Songs chart. It was SZA’s first song to top the Billboard Global 200 in early January and it had about 64 million international streams.
SZA has become incredibly successful in such a short amount of time and her music will soon be heard by thousands. Her unique take on R&B has produced an album that’s been compared to timeless artists like Taylor Swift. Her fans are waiting on the edge of their seats for her next album, estimated to come out next summer.
SZA’s music is loved by all and her legacy will be marked by the incredible music she gave to the world.
