Beware: Girl Scout Cookie Season

It’s that time of year again. No, not the season of love or jingle bells. GIRL SCOUT COOKIES ARE HERE. Thin Mints. Caramel deLites. Just naming the cookies makes you drool and impulsively want to buy the cookies from a Girl Scout, though you probably have 20 boxes stocked up in your pantry. However, you’ll probably buy another couple of boxes for lunch. And then, buy another box the next day in the morning because you ran out of peanut butter patties at home. If you’re at this stage, you’re most definitely addicted. The cravings for thin mints, caramel deLites, and many more just won’t stop. If you have these cravings, join the club with the whole student body at Yorba Linda High School.

Once it is Girl Scout Cookie Season, there’s a buzz throughout the school to find the nearest person selling the cookies. Unable to suppress the urge, students even eat the cookies in class (if the teacher allows). I wouldn’t blame you; the addictive cookies get scuffled into the mouth continuously. Some of you may be inexperienced with the names, so I’ll describe some of the most popular cookies.

  1. Thin Mints. Probably the best seller of the 12 types. The crispy chocolate wafers dipped in minty chocolate coating. Dao Le (12) enjoys thin mints “because they’re so easy to eat and mint plus chocolate plus cookie equals the best combination ever.”
  2. Caramel deLites. The 2nd best seller. These vanilla cookies coated in caramel with toasted coconut bits and chocolate stripes are the rivals of thin mints, trying to become 1st Sarah Stumpf (11) claims these two strong best-selling cookies have “a competition over which one is the best, like the feud between Coke and Pepsi. ”
  3. Peanut Butter Patties. (Patties) Crispy vanilla cookies with peanut butter covered in a chocolaty coating. Some may say these are too sweet but if you have a sweet tooth, these are the ones to buy to satisfy the sweet cravings with rich peanut butter and smooth chocolate.
  4. Shortbread:These are exactly what the name describes, a biscuit made of sugar and butter.
  5. Peanut Butter Sandwiches. The oatmeal cookies with creamy peanut butter filling. These cookies are substitutes to the Peanut Butter Patties to those who find them too sweet.
  6. Lemonades. A twist with the plain shortbread adding the zesty lemon icing on top.

The cookies are so popular that the Girl Scout tells you that you’ll have to get a rain check. The Girl Scout finally restocks on your favorite cookies and hands you two boxes of thin mints. She says “$10 please.” You completely freak out wondering with $8 in your hands and ask “isn’t it $4 per box?”. She replies “this year it’s $5 per box.” Then, you completely freak out! Does this scenario seem familiar? Well, Orange County and Greater Los Angeles have raised the price of a box to $5 from $4 to fundraise more money for the local troops. Although the troops have raised the price, it did not stop you from buying the boxes of cookies. These delicious treats are worth the extra $2 and serves to the school-wide addiction.

Students fall completely in love with the cookies, especially the popular thin mints and caramel deLites. What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?
