The world has lost an outstanding star, Liam Payne. The One Direction member has tragically passed away after falling to his death from the third story of the hotel he was staying at in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Fans are heartbroken and in shock with this news that is dominating conversations. More and more details come out everyday, but it is important to respect what has happened and mourn not only Liam but the legacy he leaves. Amidst the chaos, it is important to remember the impact he left on the music industry and not forget this star who was a huge part of many people’s childhoods and lives. Here are a few contributions that Liam made to the music world throughout his life.
Liam led many of One Direction’s biggest hits and made them what they are today. Liam opens one of their most famous tracks – What Makes You Beautiful.. This song is a huge part of many people’s childhoods. In mine, dancing to this song on Just Dance with my sister is one of my biggest core memories.
Similarly, Mckenzi Reiter (11), shares that, “You Don’t Know You’re Beautiful is actually engraved into my brain because of how many times it was on repeat in my car.”
His music was such an element of many young girls’ youth, whether it be because of the moving beat, or because of the crushes millions had on him. When I listen to any of his songs, memories of happiness from my childhood flood my mind and I feel just as my innocent young self. His sister, Ruth Gibbons, remembers him with nothing but joy, sharing on the internet that he was her best friend and never failed to make her laugh. Although his passing is so public, many people, like his sister, that were an active part of his life are going through a hard time of grief and shock, so keeping sensitivity with the matter is crucial as we honor his life.
It is sad to think that the next time the infamous boy band is back together is at Liam’s funeral. Many fans dreamt of a comeback of One Direction, another tour to highlight the effect their music had on the world. As we reminisce on Liam’s influence, it is saddening to think the 1D reunion will be a time of mourning and not an uplifting festivity. I’m sure Liam will never be forgotten, the strong connection he created with fans will carry on his legacy for many years to come. The world and his fans will continue to find happiness in his music and a smile every time they think of the star, Liam Payne.
