My entire life, I have struggled to find books that I actually want to read, but very rarely I come across a book that grabs my attention. Some books pull me in and it pains me to put them down. While sometimes I would struggle to read only ten pages of a novel, there are others that I have read hundreds of pages in one day. There are even some novels that I read in entirety within only a day. What books have helped me out of my reading slump? Let’s find out:

The first book I want to mention-my favorite book- is Huckleberry Finn. You might think this is an odd choice, and maybe it is, but I absolutely adore this book. The book follows Huckleberry Finn’s journey down the Mississippi river in an attempt to escape from his abusive father. Huck shares his adventures with Jim, a runaway slave. The serious issues displayed in the story are balanced with humorous dialogue. Mark Twain, the author of this novel, was a brilliant author who has impacted the world and has gone down in history for his genius satires, characters, and the messages portrayed in his books.

Another brilliant novel, which was on the New York Times bestseller list for over a year, is Where the Crawdads Sing. This book is a coming-of-age story that follows the life of a young girl who raises herself in the South during the mid-1900’s. It also dives into a murder case in which the main character finds herself a main suspect. Delia Owens uses vivid imagery in her novel, describing everything from the bark on a tree to the mussels in the sand. She also displays a beautiful love story between the main character and another young man. This book has recently been made into a movie as well. Grace Peralta (12) thinks that “Where the Crawdads Sing is definitely worth reading, I really liked it.”

The final book I will be discussing in this article is Six of Crows. In a change of pace from the other two novels I mentioned, Six of Crows is about the coming together of a crew who will attempt to pull off an impossible heist. Six of Crows tells the story of a ruthless and brilliant conman by the name of Kaz Brekker and his crew of skilled thieves, spies, and assassins. They try to make their way in a brutal world with secrets and stealing. This fantasy novel, written by Leigh Bardugo, is an exciting read.

These three novels all contain incredible imagery, diction, an exciting plot, and well-developed characters. Whichever novel you decide to read next, I hope it brings you as much enjoyment as reading these novels brings to me.
