As Yorba Linda High School heads into the fall, the annual homecoming dance is just around the corner. The homecoming football game takes place on October 3rd at the Nathan Shapell Memorial Stadium. The theme will be “A Night in the Bayou” including colors such as green, blue, pink, etc. Spectators of the game can expect new performances of all kinds. This year’s homecoming game will not only feature the football team, but also Yorba Linda High School’s Dance Company, cheer, song, marching band, and color guard.
Yorba Linda High School’s Dance Company showcases a range of dance styles, from contemporary and ballet to Jazz and hip hop. Their hard work is never questioned as a team that attends practice every day in zero period and weekly after school. Yorba Linda High School’s Dance Company has been involved in many other events. Although they perform at numerous football games, they also attend basketball games, and rallies, and even have their own winter and spring shows.
Parents and supporters of Dance Co. have been a great help in preparing for their events; from organizing costumes and props to helping advertise the Dance Company’s performances. The performances include student choreography as well as choreography from assistant coach, Zaphera Fidelis, and head coach, Michelle Salas. As a busy mother of three boys, Mrs. Salas makes juggling Dance Company and her family look effortless. While attending classes at Chapman University and being a part of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, Zaphera often spends her downtime choreographing routines for Dance Company to perform during football games, rallies, and shows.
This year’s homecoming football game routine will take place during halftime. The performance will reflect the energy and enthusiasm of the dancers as they take pride in their school spirit and know how to hype up a crowd. As the countdown to homecoming continues, the dancers have been putting the finishing touches on their routine and repping Yorba Linda High School Dance Company merchandise as seen around campus.
Dancer and Senior captain, Ella Bruce (12), expressed her excitement about the game. ” she said. Ella noted that the Dance Company has been rehearsing tirelessly to prepare for their performance, with long practices focusing on perfecting the routines.
