Sony’s newest movie, Uncharted, just premiered on February 18th, 2022! The film is doing surprisingly well after the mixed reviews, opinions, and the conflicts that ensued during the production.

Uncharted is a video game series brought to life on the big screen. The popular Playstation games consist of three installations that first came out in 2007. The video games have been a part of pop culture for decades, so fans were very excited to hear the news of the upcoming movie.

Since its release, Uncharted has done well in the box office. The movie theater/box office industry has been going downhill ever since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, with movies not doing well in general. These low ticket sales have been making big companies wary of releasing new films due to the low revenue. Companies such as Marvel have made a change in this sad pattern with releases such as Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings and Spider-Man No Way Home earning promising numbers! For these reasons, Sony finally decided to release their newest film, Uncharted.

Uncharted currently has a 40% Critic Score on Rotten Tomatoes and a 90% Audience Score. The varying reviews show that this movie was enjoyed by all target audiences! This film proves to be fun, exciting, and an all around good time! The crazy, outlandish action sequences provide a thrilling and enjoyable experience. One student, Rylee Dee (10), says “I loved Uncharted! It was such a good movie!” Official audience polls express their opinions in these reviews:

“Enjoyed how much they were able to pack from the game into the movie within a reasonable timeframe! 10/10 would see again” (Morgan via Rotten Tomatoes).

“Great movie and a lot of action. Hopefully there will be sequels. This franchise deserves a lot of attention” (Christopher via Rotten Tomatoes).

Better than I expected, nothing groundbreaking but competent and fun. Had cute funny moments and an admirable disregard for physics” (Milo via Rotten Tomatoes).

Critics also wanted to speak their mind:

“It’s an Indiana Jones wannabe, video-game style” (Linda via Rotten Tomatoes).

“Uncharted seems like it’s a film that knows what it’s meant to do, and that’s to entertain. Which it does well. It’s not the next coming of Indiana Jones, but it’s an enjoyable 116-minute ride” (Joshua via Rotten Tomatoes).

“An entertaining adventure film; nothing special, but nothing offensive, either. However, “Uncharted” fans will probably be left with mixed feelings” (Sebastian via Rotten Tomatoes).

Uncharted leaves viewers with a happy sense of the videogame origin of which it was made to emulate. While the movie may not win any major acclaims or awards, it definitely puts movie-goers in a good mood, something that cannot be overlooked in today’s times. So if you’re looking for a movie that will entertain, Uncharted is the perfect fit!
