A Night in the Bayou is the perfect place to spend the evening with friends on October 12th! Homecoming, also known as hoco, is a tradition that many schools take part in, which almost all students look forward to and celebrate to raise school spirit. With tickets already being sold in person and online, words about the homecoming court have been the latest topic among YLHS students around campus.
It is an honored tradition in many schools in the United States for a few students to be nominated by their peers to represent their grade to be on the “court”. The candidates comprise students who have been excellent peers to others and have been following the MUSTANG way. For Yorba Linda High School, the two students (one girl and one boy) from each grade level who have received the most votes will earn the title “homecoming prince and princess”.
The sophomore homecoming prince, Sam Bulis (10), talks about his surprising opportunity to be on the Homecoming court by saying, “My friends nominated me as a joke at first, but I realized it would be fun to be part of the court.” Many other homecoming royalty feel the same way when getting selected since it is always an unexpected but great chance to represent their grade.
The eight students nominated as the Homecoming “Princess and the Frog” will be honored at the homecoming football game and rally. They may choose to bring someone to escort them when walking and waving at the students. Diana Abousamra (9), the freshmen homecoming princess, states, “I will be bringing my mom as my escort because she has always been supportive of me and I love to have my family’s support in anything.” Like Diana, many other princes and princesses will be bringing their family or close friends to escort them during their special moment. The court will be crowned during the halftime of the YLHS home football game against San Juan Hills, which is on October 11th at 7 pm. There will also be a homecoming rally a couple of days before the game where they will be officially announcing the senior court.
Homecoming is one of the greatest events that high school students look forward to at the beginning of the year. Hopefully, 2024’s “A Night in the Bayou” will be another success, especially with amazing candidates for the court.
