How Does Music Affect Us In A Positive Way?
December 18, 2020
Do you ever remember a song and it brings back vivid memories or the song just makes you get up and dance? Music plays a very important role in our lives.
Music is such a broad topic because it makes everyone feel different emotions, and everyone counts to music in different ways. Music is proven to help improve our mood and calm us down. Music is known to boost your energy and remove any unknown stress (healthline.com).
Whether listening to happy or sad music, it benefits you. Happy music can help boost your mood and reduce anxiety. On the other hand, listening to sad music enables you to feel an emotion and embrace it. This helps because it is a therapeutic thing that can help you boost your energy.
Journal of Positive Psychology did a study in 2013; the study was that listening to happy and upbeat music for two weeks can boost you up and positively affect you. When your mood is boosted, you feel better and, overall, more satisfied with your life and happier. Being happier is known to lead to better mental and physical health.
Music acts as therapy for people. When people have anxiety, depression, PTSD, cancer, and other mental health issues, music is there for you in a unique and unexplainable way. Music lets you feel something, and it helps you understand your feelings more. There is a quote that explains how music helps, “When you’re happy, you enjoy the music, but when you’re sad, you understand the lyrics.”
No matter your taste in music it is personal to you for reasons. Whether it makes you happy, boost your energy, or you connect with the song/artist on a different level. Music allows people to forget their worries and just escape the world for a bit to find peace and comfort somewhere in them. A freshman, Avery Bollin(9), said, “music is important to me because when listening to music it is an escape from the real world. Good or bad day with music it can take my mind off anything”
Music is more important than ever right now because of COVID-19’s impact on people and their mental health, providing an outlet to alleviate stress. Most people tend to listen to music to help them get through a difficult situation or a stressful time. When listening to music you can be free and let yourself take a break. Music is essential to life and people all over the world listen to music everyday for a reason. What’s your reason to listen to music?

Music is such a great focus point of positive energies to help better your mood and I really enjoyed reading a similar perspective to mine on musics benefits.

Great article! I totally agree with what Avery said, music does take me away from the real world. With everything that has happened last year music was a little escape for me!

I think music is a great way to control your mood. As you said, it can alleviate stress especially due to COVID and since I spend much more time alone, I appreciate it a lot more now.

This is a really interesting article! I have seen many people use music as an “escape from reality” and I can now see why. I found it interesting that both happy and sad music have positive effects on mental health despite the differences in the songs’ tones.

Great article. You really chose a topic which many people can relate to. I also liked how you incorporated the idea of COVID-19’s affect and how music can help people get through these tough times.

This article gives me a much greater appreciation for music! I’ve definitely been spending a lot of time on Spotify, especially this year, and it’s true that music can be a nice escape.

All I ever do is listen to music. I find it extremely relaxing. Especially when I get upset, it always would calm me down. Thankful for music day and night.
