YLHS just had their New York, New York prom two weeks ago– and let’s just say it blew away everyone’s expectations! It surely gave “The Big Apple” justice. Everything about the prom–the venue, the music, and the food–was amazing, and the upperclassmen of YLHS had the night of their life. Let’s take a recap of the night to remember!
YLHS Prom was on May 18 at the Circle OC. Right as you entered the venue, you were hit with a million laser lights reflecting all across the ceiling of the building. It was like a rave x100! The event had a Neffect DJ who was playing and mixing some of the students’ favorite music such as “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield and “Dancing Queen” by ABBA. Many of the students said that this dance had the best music played out of all the dances of the year, Emily Lillemoen (12) saying that, “Whoever the DJ was for Prom was playing the best music possible for the night!”
On the lower floor of the venue, there was a coat check for students to check in their coats so they would not have to hold them throughout the night. Along with that, there was also a trio of jazz players playing some soothing jazz music on that floor! This jazz trio was perfect for an event like this for any students who needed some time to relax and take some time after moshing and jumping consecutively for a few songs.
As for food, there were plenty of options for students! There was a whole dessert station on the main floor with a plethora of cupcakes and cookies! Along with that, tehre was a candy bar and a soda bar with people working behind it. If a student was in need of a refreshing sprite or shirley temple, they were able to get it through the soda bar! These editions were perfect for the night, as students were satisfied with the many options for food.
As for the dance itself, many YLHS students note that prom is more fun (and more lowkey) than other dances. The reason for this is because since there are no underclassmen at prom, the moshing and dancing is not as intense, and it is not as crowded. Because there are less people, it is more lowkey and less crowded than other dances, which makes it nicer for the upperclassmen to enjoy (obviously this is not a jab toward underclassmen, do not take this personally!)
Overall, YLHS New York, New York Prom was a success! Our ASB did an amazing job planning it, and we cannot wait for more dances to come.
