Closing up with the Kardashians
September 25, 2020
Over the past 13 years and 20 seasons, the famous reality television show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, comes to an end after Kim Kardashian West announced to the world that the show will be wrapping up its final season. This news shocked everyone when it was posted through twitter on September 8th. Many fans wondered why the show was coming to an end, but it appeared only two of the Kardashians and Jenners were happy while they continued to film. Kim and Khloe were completely fine, but the rest of the family begged to differ.
The first time E! Network came out with the Kardashians in 2007, it couldn’t help but catch America’s attention. We were quickly introduced to the Kardashian girls, Khloe, Kourtney, and Kim. Kris Jenner seemed to know how to make these girls appear the best as she helped explore the qualities each girl has. She soon made each and every girl into the million-dollar women they are today.
After some time, the girls began to make their own businesses and grow outside the show. Kylie Jenner is the biggest example of this as she now has her own makeup line. Along with that, she is said to have the highest net worth out of all the girls. Kylie was not afraid of exploring other fields such as music; however, this did not go well as it soon became a meme. Kim had released a clothing line called Skims which caused a lot of controversy when it first came out with the name Kimono as it was a traditional style in Japan. Kourtney has started up her own website called POOSH and made clothing lines, fragrances, and published a book with her sisters Kim and Khloe. Just like Kim and Kourtney, Khloe explored beauty, clothing, and even has a mobile app. Kendall on the other hand, who hasn’t fully explored the business world like the other sisters, has made a clothing line with her sister Kylie known as Kendall+Kylie for Pacsun. This line of clothes has expanded since it first started and a majority of its success is credited to the reality TV show.
This family gave the world memorable quotes during its runtime such as when Kim had lost her diamond earring to Kourtney not wanting to talk to Scott by saying, “ABCDEFG, I have to go.” These were just a few of many jokes everyone could share, even those who didn’t watch the show. On the flip side of all the fun laughs they shared, there were plenty of moments filled with drama that we couldn’t take our eyes off of. America watched as Kylie hid her pregnancy from the world until it was time for her to come out with her baby girl. Kourtney also got involved with drama after news came out how her current partner at the time cheated on her with Kylie’s previous best friend. It was apparent that these sisters were sticking together through it all as Kylie made it clear she wasn’t in contact with her ex-best friend. Keeping Up With The Kardashians proved that family sticks together through laughter, pain, and anger.
Many changes were seen as the show continued through the years and made defying moments such as when Caitlyn Jenner felt comfortable in her own skin. When asked about her thoughts, Hannah Bucklin (11) stated “Caitlyn Jenner’s coming out initially gave me mixed feelings because it was good that a person was giving exposure to trans issues however it felt weird because Jenner was being praised for coming out however other trans people have experienced shame and extreme mental and physical abuse for being who they are.” Kim changed how some people view her after she decided to pursue a career in law and help out those who have been wrongly convicted. We got to see Kylie, Kim, and others go through their plastic surgeries all open about it. This can upset few as they have the luxury to fix whatever they want.
The final episode is said to premiere in early 2021, so once that day comes, America will have to watch the family continue to grow through other various platforms. It’ll be hard for E! Network to make another reality show better than Keeping Up With The Kardashians. The family is one of the most popular in pop culture, so staying out of the media’s eye won’t be an easy task.

I remember watching this show with my sister and laughing at the iconic moments as well as watching the family grow up to becoming such prominent figures of our generation. Although I am sad this chapter of their lives are ending, I know that focussing on their new individual projects and starting families will start something as monumental.
