The year is reaching an end, and especially for seniors, this is the most exciting summer, and it feels like an end to an era. This summer has to be the best summer break out of all the prior summer breaks. Deciding what to do is difficult, especially with the super high prices. Don’t worry though, there are many drivable gems in California that you can visit!
Depending on the scenery you’d prefer, whether it’s a beach, desert, or mountains, you can find it nearby. Starting with beachy places, there are various options here. A few are Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Long Beach, Malibu, Santa Barbara, Pismo Beach, Santa Monica, and Venice Beach. Although the prices really fluctuate depending on the rental company or airbnb, Pismo beach is possibly the most budget-friendly of all the beaches listed. It is also a beautiful area and is popular for ATV’s and camping. Another Beach on the budget-friendly side would be Long Beach. Long Beach is close to the other beaches such as Huntington and Newport, making it easier to move around as well and visit more places. A fun thing to do in Long Beach are fires. The other beaches are more expensive but definitely worth the experience!
California is mainly known for its beaches but also has a lot to offer when it comes to the Desert as well. Going to the desert has so many benefits as well. Such as camping, especially staying in an RV, as well as ATV’s, and similar attractions. Some popular deserts in California are Palm Springs, Joshua Tree, Death Valley, and Glamis. If you plan on staying in an RV usually depending on the RV the price can range from $30-$100 per night. Otherwise to rent out a place or stay at an airbnb the most budget-friendly desert would be Joshua Tree.
The most popular mountainous place to go to in California is normally the San Bernardino Mountains. That includes Big Bear and Lake Arrowhead. Normally, people go there during winter to ski or snowboard but there are still many fun options during Summer. As previously mentioned, there are two main lakes: Lake Arrowhead and Big Bear Lake. During the summer you can go fishing, boating, and hiking. It is a great option. A YLHS senior, Hannah Jebelli (12), says
There is a broad spectrum of nearby places to go to for your Senior Trip! It’s time to start planning.
