College is a melting pot. People come from all over the world to go to college. People of all different backgrounds and ethnicities come together to find themselves through education and social activities. It is important to get involved in college so that you find your people. There are hundreds of clubs and different activities that can get you involved.
Clubs are a must when looking to get involved in college. There are as many clubs as you can imagine. Each school has unique clubs, but there is bound to be one that you find fascinating. One club I found interesting was the sailing club. I was walking past the booth, and the members of this club were yelling out to people hoping for them to join. They were super welcoming and let people know that no experience was needed. I’ve never tried sailing before, and never really thought that I would, but that club definitely interested me. It was out of my comfort zone, but the people seemed really cool and it was something new. Emma Reiss claims that she is “so excited to join clubs to meet new people.” The point of this story is just to say that you should involve yourself in many things. You might end up liking it.
Another way to get involved is sororities and fraternities. Greek life is huge in college. It definitely depends on which college you attend, but Greek life is bigger on some colleges than others. The recruitment and rushing process can be overwhelming, and scary. However, some people meet their lifelong friends that way. Greek life creates a family within your house and a community through all of Greek life. It is a great way to meet people and get involved.
Another way is just by taking classes. Emma Reiss shares that she will be “dorming with people with the same major as [her].” If you look up and smile, rather than being reserved to yourself, you might meet people in your classes. This is a good way to meet people with similar interests and majors.
Overall, it is relatively easy to meet people in college. Just be yourself, and the right people will find you. There is a place for everyone in college. Just remember to be open minded and try as many new things as possible! I wish you the best of luck on these huge next steps in your lives. Remember to let loose and have fun Mustangs!
