Rivalry Week
January 23, 2019
This week at YLHS is the big rivalry week between Yorba Linda and Esperanza. The week is a big one on campus, especially since YLHS did not get the chance to play against Esperanza in football. There are many things going on throughout the week. Many rivalry games and a dress up for every leading up to the big game. Along with the rivalry week is the canned food drive.
There are five dress up days for this week, one for each day. Monday’s dress up day is pregame. Wear any of your pregame outfits or sweats to school. On Tuesday dress up as the superhero you always wanted to be when you were younger. On Wednesday Esperanza is seeing double. Dress up with your friends in matching outfits for twin day. Thursday is hypebeast day. Wear your most designer clothes. On Friday support YLHS by repping the spirit wear around school. Finally, at the game dress up as a cowboy or cowgirl for the western theme. Also, make sure to come to the game a little early to get a bandana that ASB will be passing out.
Along with the crazy rivalry week is the canned food drive. We have beat Esperanza in the canned food drive for the past few years and are hoping for a positive outcome this year. According to Riley Pietsch (10) the canned food drive is her “favorite part, not only because we compete against Esperanza but also because we are giving back to a great cause.” All of the cans donated goes to Second Harvest to feed the homeless in our area.
Throughout this upcoming week, many of YLHS sports teams are taking on EHS. The rivalry games that are happening this week are between men and womens basketball, wrestling, and mens soccer. To start the week off is wrestling. Varsity plays at home on Wednesday, 1/16, at 6 o’clock. Then Men and Womens basketball play at home on Friday. Women’s Varsity starts at 5:30 and Men’s Varsity starts at 7:00. Mens soccer is the only away game this week. Varsity plays on Friday, 1/18, and starts at 6 o’clock at Esperanza.
Good luck to all of the teams competing in games this week, bring home those wins. Also, donate any cans laying around. It goes to a good cause and would be great to beat Esperanza yet again.
