“Heaven Official’s Blessing”
Eight hundred years ago, Xie Lian was considered to be a noble Crown Prince with unlimited potential, and thus he rose to godhood. One certain day, he comes across a calamity named “White No Face” and tragedy strikes in his kingdom of Xianle. Despite it being forbidden for a god to make contact and change the fate of mortals, Xie Lian breaks the rules with his only hope being, “I want to save the common people!” Thus he goes against the orders of the Heavenly Emperor and ends up in a pattern of being promoted and demoted from godhood again and again, and finally falls to rock bottom. Eight hundred years later, Xie Lian ascended again, but this time, without worshippers. After causing a disaster in the Heavenly Realm and breaking a few things, Xie Lian takes upon questionable tasks to repay his heavy debt. While collecting scraps, he comes across a mysterious young man who happens to be kicked from his house named San Lang. Xie Lian takes this boy under his wing and they journey together. There’s just something off about San Lang though… he seems to know a bit too much. Is he really just a young boy… or some other entity?
“Heaven Official’s Blessing” is honestly just an absolute masterpiece of a manhua whether in plot, art, or everything else. The chemistry between the characters is really entertaining and every character is likable in some ways. It also has a completed novel that is filled with so many more details of the story, but beware the novel will make you burst out in tears, especially in the section of Xie Lian’s past. Not to mention, there is so much intricate foreshadowing that when you reread the manhua/novel you would just be shocked that you didn’t realize it sooner.
“19 Days”
If you’re looking for a short read to keep you entertained, “19 Days” is the perfect manhua for you. Although there are around 400+ chapters, most of them are very short stories filled with silly teenage boys getting in trouble 24/7. Throughout all the hilarious plot twists in the story the 4 main characters, the manhua are also mixed with a small twinge of angst and bullying. Thus, the character dynamics and the boy’s questionable sense of humor make up for it. The overall story isn’t rushed at all and there is very good character build-up and art development. “19 Days” is honestly just a comfort read and you won’t be bored in any of the chapters.
“She May Not Be Cute”
Xia Anran once said that she would never get married because she didn’t want to go through the same fate as her mother. Yet a few years later, she walks down the aisle to get wedded to her beloved fiancé. On this special day, she finds photos of her fiancé and her best friend having intimate moments with each other, and thus throws the photos in his face a walks out like the girl boss she is. After this betrayal, Anran believes that true love really doesn’t exist. Two years later, she became the successful head of a magazine company and received the opportunity to interview an executive dessert chef. Little did she know, the chef was her childhood friend and neighbor, Lin Hao, whom she has always thought of as a younger brother. When they reunite with each other, will Anran’s caged heart finally open to someone?
Overall “She May Not Be Cute” is definitely a must-read. The male lead has loved Anran since they were children until the moment they met many years later and he always supported her from the sidelines. Not to mention, he became a world-renowned dessert chef just for her. This manhua is a bit of a slow burn because Anran just happens to be oblivious to Lin Hao’s feelings, but everything else about it is so entertaining to read. In addition, the art is just a chef’s kiss!
“Eternal Love/First Frost”
As Wen Yifan returns to her hometown for work, she goes to a bar and meets the infamous “First-Class Handsome Guy,” but he turns out to be Sang Yan, the boy that she harshly rejected in high school. The two people who could never get along kept bumping into each other, and they even rented the same unit by chance and became housemates. Despite not being able to stand each other in the past, their relationship starts to close as they live together and love is in the air. All the small arguments between the two are quickly resolved through communication, which doesn’t happen a lot in other stories. This manhua has the same artist as “She May Not Be Cute,” which means you definitely won’t be disappointed by the art, but once again, it’s a slow-burn story.
“Hidden Love: Can’t Be Concealed”
Sang Zhi never would have expected that she would ever fall in love with her older brother’s friend Duan Jiaxu. After all, he treats her way better than her brother does and is willing to help her avoid teacher-parent meetings. She does everything she can to hide her feelings only to discover he’s already noticed a while back. This is a cute age-gap story with a fox-like male lead. Have no fear, the male lead absolutely did not have any interest in Sang Zhi nor did he see her in a romantic light when she was younger. Not to mention, they were separated for quite a few years until they reconciled with each other. The female lead’s naivety and mildly aggressive personality create a better tone to the story and the art is insanely breathtaking. The backstory of this manhua is based on the author’s real-life experience, and in real life, she never had her happy ending. Luckily enough, “Hidden Love: Can’t Be Concealed” follows a different path from the author and everyone is happy in the end! With an interesting plot and Duan Jiaxu being a blessing to the eyes, what is there not to read?
Additionally, “Hidden Love: Can’t Be Concealed” is in the same universe as “Eternal Love” with the brother, Sang Yan being the male lead and Sang Zhi being featured in a few episodes! This is because the two stories are written by the same author! As charming as he may be in Eternal Love, he is quite different in this story. The two have your typical sibling dynamic: always arguing. This just creates an even more comedic effect to the story.
“Little Mushroom”
In an apocalyptic world, the strongest survive and the weakest are left to die. An Ze and a group of explorers are traversing through a place called “The Abyss,” but a large scorpion-like monster attacks them. Whilst running for the monster, one of An Ze’s friends almost gets stabbed by the tail, but An Ze intercepts it and everyone abandons him to die alone and in pain. A small mushroom named An Zhe attempts to heal An Ze, but it is too small and unable to. The mushroom’s lifelong mission is to raise a spore of his own, but one day, he loses his spore to the humans. An Zhe stays with An Ze until he dies and somehow ends up in the skin of An Ze. All that is left of An Ze are bones, and An Zhe is left to explore the human world himself and find his spore.
The only word that can describe this manhua is mystical. Everything just feels like a dream. The comforting art style is mixed with an eerie feeling and the somewhat peaceful plot still makes you feel as if something bad is going to happen. Besides that, every character is stunning and every panel of the manhua is super well-drawn. Not to mention, the chibi drawings of characters in the story are absolutely adorable, and An Zhe overall as a person is as well.
