On October 27th, 2017, Linkin Park will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl in memory of the death of their lead singer, Chester Bennington. All around the world, fans of Linkin Park were devastated to hear about the suicide of the lead singer Chester Bennington. He was found on July 20th, 2017 at his home in Palos Verdes. As a result, Linkin Park will be paying tribute to the singer in the “one-night-only” event. This will be the first concert the band has done since his death.

The band members had been planning to start their “One More Light North American Tour” when the lead singer committed suicide a week earlier. All dates were canceled and refunds were provided to all who had anticipated seeing one of the concerts. Linkin Park announced that they will recognize Chester Bennington for his amazing music and to honor his memory. The concert will also have a variety of other bands and singers joining the Linkin Park in commemorating the band leader.

On top of this, money from buying tickets will be donated to the Music for Relief’s One More Light fund. Music for Relief is a nonprofit organization which helps to raise money for those who have survived natural disasters as well as to help protect the environment. It was founded by Linkin Park as a result of the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami and has helped raise “$9 million dollars for survivors of multiple disasters… including Hurricane Katrina, China’s Wenchuan earthquake, a cholera outbreak in Zimbabwe, earthquakes in Haiti and Japan in 2010, and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines” (Music for Relief). They also help to raise awareness for “the environmental consequences of global climate change, which has demonstrated the capability to accelerate and strengthen certain types of natural disasters” (Music for Relief). Roxane Fournier (10) who is a big fan of the band finds that it was beneficial to turn the tragic suicide into a charity “because it lets people listen to music… and mourn the death of Chester [Bennington] while raising money for a good cause.” Tickets went on sale Friday the 22nd of September, but donations can still be made on the Music for Relief website.

Linkin Park also made a new music video to their recent song “One More Light” to recognize Chester Bennington. The song was chosen since it “was written with the intention of sending love to those who lost someone” according to Mike Shinoda, one of the band members. Since the band is in this position, they found it to be appropriate to honor Chester Bennington.
