Walt Disney, Disneyland, Downtown Disney… Radio Disney Music Awards? The Radio Disney Music Awards is an award show supported by Radio Disney. Fifteen years old, the 2016 RDMA’s (Radio Disney Music Awards) were held at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California on April 30th, 2016. This ceremony awards known singers of the year as well as individuals who have made an impact in their school and community.

Many celebrities got the opportunity to perform on stage as well as on screen including Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, DNCE, Laura Marano, Flo Rida and many others. In addition to these live performances, Fifth Harmony, Blake Shelton, Katherine McNamara, Alessia Cara, Jenna Rose and Frankie Grande were caught on the Red Carpet as well as enjoying the award show.

There was a special performance by Jordan Smith, winner of “The Voice,” who performed “Stand in the Light.” His coaches from the television show, Blake Shelton and Pharrell Williams, were there and supported him as he entered the stage and sang.

Numerous special awards were given out that night as well, including “Best Female Artist,” awarded to Selena Gomez, “Best Group,” given to Fifth Harmony, “Song of the Year,” to Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood” and the “Hero Award,” honored to Gwen Stefani. Each winner was awarded with a blown up golden version of the Disney Vinylmation, which can be bought around the Disney parks.

Sarah Stumpf (12) wasn’t able to attend the RDMA’s in person, but says that her “favorite performance of the night was probably when the triple threat, Laura Marano singing “Boombox,” Sabrina Carpenter with “Smoke and Fire,” and Sofia Carson performed their songs like a trio.”

On the other hand, Caitlyn Jacob (12) says that her “favorite part of the Radio Disney Music Awards were not the triple threat, but Hailee Steinfield performing “Rock Bottom,” and Ariana Grande singing her new single “Dangerous Woman.” [She] was bummed that Selena Gomez wasn’t actually at the ceremony to accept her award and give a speech, but believes that Selena Gomez definitely deserved the “Best Female Artist” Award.

The fashion at the RDMA’s were graded outstanding. Some of the best pieces were Laura Marano’s glass wedge heels, Fifth Harmony’s coordinating dresses, and Jenna Rose’s tangerine jumper. And although many celebrities weren’t able to join the actual award ceremony on April 30th, many joined the show in spirit or recorded their acceptance speech in advance, so the audience would be able to see their face.
