iHeartRadio is an online music radio platform that streams music from over 800 local radio stations. With the rising popularity in recent years, iHeartRadio instantly rose to fame by sponsoring KIIS FM and MY FM. Now, hosting the radio charts’ best artists, the iHeartRadio Music Awards was created. In 2014, the iHeartRadio Music Awards first commemorated the best artists and music by the listeners in the past year. Based on the results from the iHeartRadio charts, the nominees were chosen by the fans. Here at YLHS this awards show has many tuned in. If you missed it, this year’s awards show was filled with awe-inspiring moments, so a recap is at hand.

 

The entire show was hosted by Ryan Seacrest who is no stranger to the radio industry. Throughout the awards and performances, Seacrest was a perfect fit for this specific venue. Not only was he witty, but Seacrest made sure everything ran smoothly.

 

During the show, there were so many talented performers. These performances made the show exciting and entertaining every minute. Performers include: Katy Perry, Big Sean, Ed Sheeran, Shawn Mendes, Thomas Rhett, The Chainsmokers, Noah Cyrus, and Bruno Mars. Katy Perry sang her hit “Chained to the Rhythm”, Big Sean sang a medley of  “Voices in My Head” / “Bounce Back” / “Moves”, Ed Sheeran performed “Shape of You”/”Castle on the Hill”, Shawn Mendes sang his song “Mercy”, Thomas Rhett sang “Star of the Show”, The Chainsmokers performed “Paris” / “Something Just Like This”, Noah Cyrus featuring Labyrinth sang “Make Me (Cry)”, and ending the night was Bruno Mars with “Treasure”/ “That’s What I Like”.

 

The awards portion of the show represented the powerhouses of the music industry in 2016. Some nominees of main awards are the reason why people still tune in and listen to the radio. Winning Song of the Year for “Can’t Stop the Feeling”, Justin Timberlake stood proud and made sure to bring attention to individuality. Best New Artist was won by the Chainsmokers, Female Artist of the Year was awarded to Adele, and Male Artist of the Year was handed to Justin Bieber.
When asked what she thought of the iHeartRadio Music Awards, Anjolie Jang (9) responded saying “I thought the show was so fun and entertaining. The artists’ that won are so talented and some of my favorites.” With so many influential artists and performances, this year’s iHeartRadio Music Awards was one for the books.
