It’s that time of year again: the time to announce the new Pantone Color of the Year. This year, Pantone chose Greenery, a “refreshing and revitalizing” shade that is supposed to symbolize new beginnings. It is a zesty green shade with a slight yellow tone to it and it brings forth spring. Greenery is about reviving, restoring, and renewing. It’s “nature’s neutral” and it appeals to modern people since we desire unity of the natural world in the midst of our busy lives.
According to Pantone, the selection process requires consideration and analysis of trends. Pantone’s color experts at the Pantone Color Institute have to analyze the world looking for new color influences and what is popular. This includes looking at the influences from the entertainment industry and films in production, traveling art collections and artists, fashion, design, travel destinations, lifestyles, play styles, technology, materials, textures, and socio-economic conditions. Pantone has been influencing development of product and making decisions in multiple industries for 17 years now. For 17 years, Pantone’s Color of the Year has influenced product development and purchasing decisions in multiple industries, including fashion, home furnishings and industrial design, as well as product packaging and graphic design.
“There’s a growing desire to reconnect with Nature and what is real, and find ways to disconnect from technology. We need a break. We need to stop and breathe,” Laurie Pressman, the Pantone Color Institute’s vice president, told to FORBES.
The tone is more minimalistic also, unlike Emerald, 2013’s Color of the Year.
The hue is omnipresent in all parts of the world because it is common in nature, and it is also trans-seasonal. When paired with neutrals, bright and deeper shades, metallics, and pastels, Greenery provides a bright new pop amongst different shades and materials.
Pantone provides many tips for pairing the shade and how it affects fashion, beauty, home-decor, architecture, food, beverages, and graphic design.
Be sure to update your closets and homes for the new year with this beautiful shade.
